Customs Brokerage

Customs brokers are increasingly being asked to do more with less. On one hand, they are under pressure to provide better customer service in an environment where compliance transactions and regulations are only growing more complex and stringent. New regulatory and technical initiatives such as the ones stated below have challenged the capabilities of outdated processes and systems.

  • Frequent changes in the customs regulations
  • Increased complexity of the forms submitted by importers / brokers to the customs
  • Inclusion of many new categories that further complicate the mandatory filing procedure

On the other hand, customs brokers are facing increased competition and a limit to the fees they can charge for customs entries. The only way to address this dual challenge is to become more productive, without compromising on service or compliance quality.

EVRY's strong business fundamentals to help clients to build an enhanced customs brokerage system. This system, as envisaged by the client, would bridge the existing gaps and help meet future specifications. The system encompasses the preparation of documents and/or electronic submissions, calculation and payment of taxes, duties and excises, and facilitation of communication between government authorities and importers / exporters.

We bring in superior knowledge by working with one of the largest North American clients on US customs. The US imports are approximately estimated at USD 2 trillion in goods through its borders. Most of the documentation associated with this trade is filed manually. The US customs department offers brokers to file this information electronically. However, a stringent and complicated certification process means that, only about 18 companies in all of the US are certified for this submission. To make matters worse, during the last 10 years, the US import regulations have changed a great deal. There have been many factors, which have contributed to the increased complexity of procedures that importers and brokers have to undergo.

We have worked in compliance areas such as:

  • Interfaces ABI, ACE, RLF /AII /EIP
  • Warehouse entry and recon flag
  • Fee schedule, summary billing, entry & file management
  • Implementation of business rules for:
    • NAFTA , Annexure 401
